A lot of people got their hands dirty in September to make the canal cleaner, removing buckets and buckets of trash. But the invisible waste unfortunately remains: microplastics quietly drifting toward the sea.

We can’t fish out microplastics (yet), so the best fix is to stop them at the source. Choose organic fabrics (synthetic clothes shed microplastics in the wash), use the car less (tires break down into microplastics when driving), and of course … refuse single-use plastic packaging.
