When asked how many different species of fish and birds live in the canal, most people look around, see none, and guess low. But the reality is quite different. The Brussels Canal is home to 39 bird species and 19 fish species, making it a vital ecological corridor through the city!

Groups of friends, individuals, the Rotaract bxl Coudenberg and colleagues from Nuit Sans Folie, BNP Paribas Fortis België, SPF Santé Publique, AXIS, NTT DATA and Leyton joined us for a kayak cleanup. Some of them were lucky and had the chance to spot a great crested grebe, a kingfisher and the more common cormorant along the water. But all of them grabbed their nets and pulled trash out of the water so birds and fish wouldn’t end up ingesting them. Thank you!
